Salerno Stazione Marittima S.p.a. company ( became Salerno Stazione Marittima S.r.l. ) was established by some harbor entrepreneurs.
Their purpose were to let become the Salerno port an international cruise ferry slip, and one of most representative port of Mediterranean area.
The above purpose was born from the very nice position of Salerno and its port, because it they are situated between the wonderful Amalfitana coast and Cilentana coast, near Pompei and Paestum excavations.
Furthermore in the last years it was noticed a change from the Caribbean area to the Mediterranean area, so the strategic position of Salerno port is very important for the development of cruise and touristy traffic in this area.

This is the reasons because Salerno Stazione Marittima carried out in the 1998 a moveable ferry station, waiting for the building of ferry station.
With building of ferry station and with extension of the Manfredi wharf to let dock passenger ship of around 500mt length the sea traffic prevision growth a lot.
The prevision are of 2 passenger ships ( of around 600 passengers ) docked to the Manfredi wharf, so total of 150 passenger ships and 90.000 passengers and 400 travelling staff unity, so the prevision per year is of 250.000 travelling passengers.
